Familiarity and Comfort
~Pathways~

The Good Samaritan Home has created an innovative community that matches their unique care of Alzheimer's residents...the "Pathways Community"!

This community consists of two distinct units (Pathways I and II) that are designed to meet the needs of the Alzheimer's/dementia resident through-out the disease process.  Pathways provides flexibility by rigorously defining two specific units to meet the unique needs of individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's/dementia throughout the progression of the disease.  Emphasis is on providing familiar and stimulating environments.  Activity zones promote resident interaction to maintain current level of functioning for as long as possible.

Familiar activities such as:  baking, cooking, music program, and pet care are incorporated into the daily activity programming.  This innovative community concept allows choice of movement and activities to reduce agitation.  Our community  provides residents with controlled flexibility.  Mobility is maintained with a system of pathways.  Residents can meander along interior and exterior paths and at no time will the resident leave the secured, supervised community.  All paths are designed to focus residents on activities where they can mentally engage tactile and sensory obstacles.

Familiarity and comfort is maintained to lessen anxiety levels.  Recognition keys are woven into all aspects of the community to aid resident's recall and recognition.  Rooms arranged as neighborhood clusters feel like home while stimulating resident to get involved in their Home's activities.  Neighborhoods are distinguished by featuring color coding.

Alzheimer's support group meets the 3rd Monday of every month.  Contact Diane Gears at dgears@goodsamhome.org for more information.
